Essen, May 2025. The former Arabella Brauneck Hotel Lenggries is currently undergoing a renovation phase, which will be completed with its reopening at the end of August this year. In the future, the completely renovated boutique hotel, part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio, will welcome guests as “Flesslers”. This was announced by the operator, Signo Hospitality Lenggries GmbH, and the local real estate developer, Mountain Lifestyle Lenggries GmbH & Co. KG. “The name is a commitment to the Lenggries location and the resurrected hotel, which will once again be among the landmarks of the community in a few months”, says Sascha Konter, Managing Director of Signo Hospitality GmbH. “Flessler” is the Old German word for raftsmen, who once shaped the history of Lenggries. “Rafting is one of the oldest trades in Lenggries, and with the naming ‘Flesslers’, we want to show our respect for this cultural heritage”, explains Konter. “This also reflects our close connection to Upper Bavaria and our good cooperation with local trades.”
Homage to the Rafting Trade and the 1970s
In earlier times, rafting was one of the most important sources of income in Lenggries. It enabled craftsmen and traders to transport timber via the Isar and Danube rivers all the way to Vienna. For ten years now, rafting has even been officially recognized as an intangible UNESCO heritage. “Our commitment to tradition and the roots of the hotel’s history will also be reflected in the new design”, says Konter. Although details will only be announced at the opening, the Managing Director of Signo Hospitality can already reveal this much: “that with a mix of reinterpreted 1970s retro style, we will not present a classic Bavarian hotel, but rather a unique establishment that nevertheless integrates very harmoniously into its surroundings.” In the new interior design of rooms and hallways, alongside images and wall designs related to the rafting tradition, there are also depictions referring to the theme of sports. After all, the hotel was opened in 1972 as a sports activity hotel during the Olympic Games in Munich. Equipped with 114 rooms and suites, a restaurant, beer garden, six event rooms, a 20-meter-high climbing wall, and a rooftop bar with panoramic views of Lenggries and the surrounding mountains, the new Flesslers will in the future offer an ideal retreat for active holidays, relaxation, events, conferences, and team events.
